Do you remember that line from the 70's sappy classic "Love Story"? Jenny Cavaleri, dying of leukemia, assures True Love Oliver that "I'm Sorry" is unneeded. We all (ok, so I am aging myself!) wept right along with beautiful Ali McGraw as she poured out this fairy tale drivel.
I saw Ms. McGraw on Oprah recently and she said she couldn't believe she said such a silly thing in a movie! Of course apologies are a part of True Love…DUH! I think we all see that, but….
Could "I'm Sorry" be used the WRONG way? Could it actually keep love away?
I am talking about those useless "I'm Sorrys" that women use as frequently as a common hello. You know what I mean.
Every time there is some snafu, the default response? "Oh, I'm sorry." Are you really? What are you saying….really? If you can relate to this, and I know some of you do, you just may be a Snow White.
Snow White's are so intent on keeping everything ok in their world that they apologize all the time for everything. One of my clients (A true Snow White…even has dark hair and blue eyes!) laughed as she told me this story:
Once, after a person stepped on her foot…she apologized for having her foot in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Can you relate? Are you ready to stop that nonsense? Good!
For this week, simply listen to yourself. Do an "I'm Sorry Audit." Opening your awareness to the over use of this phrase automatically boosts your Love Vibe.
One last key point….Don't be overly hard on yourself here, Snow White! You have a habit. It is simply an unaware strategy of your Saboteur. She knows that constant pointless apologizing is VERY unattractive.
Don't forget, your Saboteur just wants to feel safe. She really doesn't like apologizing all the time. She is waiting for you to release her from that duty.
